Dear MUMC Family,

“If you have enough faith, God will bless you.”

It sounds encouraging—until life becomes difficult. Then this familiar saying can leave people wondering whether illness, loss, financial hardship, or unanswered prayer means their faith was not strong enough.

But faith is not a coin we insert into a divine vending machine. God does not dispense health, wealth, happiness, or success according to our spiritual performance.

The Apostle Paul prayed repeatedly for his “thorn” to be removed, yet it remained. God’s response was not condemnation, but a promise: “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” Faith does not guarantee that we will receive everything we ask for. Faith assures us that God’s grace will meet us in whatever we face.

This Sunday is also World Communion Sunday. Across nations, languages, cultures, and denominations, Christians will gather around Christ’s table. None of us comes because we have demonstrated enough faith or earned a place. We come because Christ has invited us. The bread and cup are not rewards for the deserving; they are gifts of grace for people who are hungry, hopeful, weary, grateful—and sometimes uncertain.

Help Us Fill the Food Pantry Shelves
As we gather at Christ’s table, we are reminded that grace sends us to care for our neighbors’ tables, too. The shelves at our township food pantry are empty and urgently need to be restocked. Please bring nonperishable food to church this Sunday—or anytime during the coming weeks. A list of their biggest needs is below. Together, we can help ensure that our neighbors have enough to eat.

Join us Sunday at 10:00 AM as we continue our series, Jesus Never Said That, and explore the difference between faith that tries to control God and faith that learns to trust God.

At Christ’s table, there are no guarantees—but there is always grace.

MUMC Hosts Its Annual Community Rummage Sale October 16-17

MUMC will hold its Annual Church Rummage Sale on October 16–17, offering a wide selection of gently used items at affordable prices for families, neighbors, and bargain-seekers across the region. The sale will take place at 117 Sunset Road, Belle Mead, NJ, and will feature an extensive assortment of clothing, housewares, books, décor, and other hidden treasures donated by members of the congregation and local residents. In addition to the rummage sale, attendees can enjoy a Bake Sale offering homemade treats prepared by church volunteers. The event is designed to support community connection, sustainable reuse, and charitable outreach.

• Friday, October 16 — 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM
• Saturday, October 17 — 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

The Annual Rummage Sale has been a beloved tradition at MUMC for over 30 years, drawing people from Montgomery, Hillsborough, Princeton, and other area communities. Proceeds support the church’s ministries and community programs, helping fund outreach efforts that benefit local families and charitable initiatives.
